Shanghai Disney Resort has confirmed that Shanghai Disneyland will be reopening its doors on May 11 with strict measures in place with regards to social distancing and health and safety.
The resort has been closed since late January due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, and over the past few weeks a number of testing measures have been taking place in order to prepare the park for its reopening.
During Walt Disney Company’s Q2 earnings call, the reopening of the park was announced in addition to a number of protocols and guidelines which will be followed for the foreseeable.
The park will be subject to limited attendance during the initial opening phase, with guests requiring advanced tickets and reservations in order to access the park. A limited number of tickets will be available from the resort’s online channels as well as official travel partners’ channels from May 8 at 8am.
Prior to arriving at the resort, guests will need to provide basic information including name, phone number, ID type and ID number via Shanghai Disney Resort’s official online channels. In return, they will be provided with a Shanghai Disneyland Reservation QR Code which will need to be presented before entering the park.
A Health QR Code will also be required, whilst guests must be prepared to present a China government ID card, or valid travel document, for each guest at the park turnstiles. Guests will also undergo temperature screening procedures upon arrival and must wear an approved mask during the entire visit to the resort except when dining.
During its initial opening, the majority of Shanghai Disneyland’s attractions and rides, and some shows and shopping and dining locations will resume operations, with controlled attendance measures. Other interactive attractions, experiences and theatre shows will remain closed, whilst there will also be no parades or nighttime spectaculars for the time being.
Instead, there will be a special character procession called Mickey and Friends Express which will take place several times daily, whilst the Enchanted Storybook Castle will also come to life with light and music at dusk each day with Evening Magical Moments. Characters will continue to make appearances in each of the themed lands, however, close interaction and close-up photos will be suspended during the initial reopening.
Shanghai Disneyland has also confirmed that the frequency of sanitisation measures will be increased in order to cement the already high standards of cleanliness they possess within the park. Hand sanitisers will also be available at attractions, restaurant and stores.
