High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is coming to Disney’s new streaming service Disney+, and the the first trailer for it has debuted during D23 Expo.

The series will not be a reboot or a sequel to the beloved movie franchise. Instead, the 10-episode series is a docu-style show which follows a new wave of characters at East High School as they stage the school’s first-ever production of High School Musical.

The trailer introduces us to some of the new East High students who are competing for the roles of Troy Bolton, Gabriella Montez and Sharpay Evans, made famous by Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, and Ashley Tisdale respectively. The students appear to be super fans of the movies, and the trailer also gives us a glimpse of the cast performing their version of ‘Stick To The Status Quo’. Each episode is set to include a new rendition of a famous HSM song in addition to an original song.
