It’s awards season, and winning an Oscar is the dream for film, script, and song writers. Disney films are no strangers to the Oscars, so let’s see how they did this year.
Unsurprisingly, Black Panther was nominated for a huge number of awards, including Best Picture, Best Original Song, Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing. It also went on to win 3 awards: Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, and Best Original Score.
Disney had a great chance of winning Best Animated Feature, with Incredibles 2 and Ralph Breaks the Internet both nominated, and the award going to Marvel’s Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse.
Mary Poppins Returns also had a good year, nominated for Best Production Design, and Best Costume Design, Best Original Score (all of which were won by Black Panther), as well as Best Original Song.
It’s no surprise that Bao was the winner of Best Animated Short. Shown before Incredibles 2, it mesmerised, and shocked, viewers around the world.
Everyone was sure Disney would win Best Visual Effects, having 3 out of the 5 nominees: Avengers: Infinity War, Christopher Robin, and Solo: A Star Wars Story. However, the award went to First Man instead.
So, all in all, Disney had a great year for nominations, and Black Panther had an even better year for awards! Well done!
